Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
The sixth seal reveals that the judgment within the heavenly sanctuary has closed. Christ has completed his priestly work and cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary and now puts on the garments of vengeance.
Luke 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Isaiah 59:14 And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.
18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.
But the church must and will fight against seen and unseen foes. Satanic agencies in human form are on the ground. Men have confederated to oppose the Lord of hosts. These confederacies will continue until Christ shall leave his place of intercession before the mercy-seat, and shall put on the garments of vengeance. RH December 17, 1908, par. 7
Revelation clearly reveals when the transition of Christ from judgment to the ministration of God's wrath takes place. Just prior to the sounding of the seventh trumpet
Revelation 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
When he shall begin to sound is more accurately translated when he is ABOUT to sound. Just prior to the sounding of the seventh trumpet the mystery of God is finished.
Colossians 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
The mystery of God - Christ in you the hope of glory is complete. God's children at this time are those who have the spirit of Christ within. He is their motivation, their guide, their hope and salvation. They have followed him through thick and thin and will follow him to the end right through the time when God's wrath is poured out of the seven vials.
Revelation 11 reveals this transition phase:
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
The seventh angel has sounded, the kingdoms of this world have become those of the Lord and his Christ - God has taken his great power and is reigning. Revelation 11 mirrors the event described in the sixth seal - "For the great day of his wrath is come" - Revelation 6:17 - "and thy wrath is come" - Revelation 11: 18
Jeremiah 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
11 Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
The God of love will make those who hold the truth in unrighteousness accountable. The ungodly will receive the wrath of God.
This preparation for the outpouring of wrath is described in:
Revelation 15: 6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.
7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.
8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.
Revelation 16 describes the seven vials of God's wrath and their outpouring during the final days of those on earth. They are fearful and devastating.
Christ referred to the supernatural events that would take place :
Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mark 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
At the opening of the sixth seal we read the description of the same events that Christ described to the disciples in Matthew and Mark:
Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. note
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
The earthquake in the seal is not referred to in the gospel references but another passage in Revelation includes reference to a GREAT earthquake and all the other earthly and heavenly features referred to in the sixth seal:
Revelation 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
This is the description of the seventh plague or vial which takes place at the end of the tribulation or end of Jacob's time of trouble. This description contains the same elements as those described personally by Christ to his disciples and also fits in with the reference that Mark and Matthew make stating that these events are taking place "after the tribulation" ( Matthew 24:29, Mark 13: 24) or at the end of the tribulation. The focus in the description of the seventh plague is on those events taking place on earth and the impacts they have - the events happening to the sun, moon and stars are not mentioned. The seventh plague describes a destructive hail storm that causes men to blaspheme and curse God :
Revelation 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
The sixth seal (Revelation 6: 15,16) describes: "the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of
him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Isaiah an old testament prophet records the same event:
Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.
19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. note
20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
God has prophesied through his prophet servants Isaiah and John where the inhabitants of men would seek to be protected from Christ at his second coming - "the clefts of the rocks, in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;" (Revelation 6:15, Isaiah 2:21)
The USA has already prepared these mountain sanctuaries (Cheyenne Mountain. Colorado, USA) initially put in place to protect the president and other high ranking officials should a nuclear attack be likely:
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

We know that Matthew and Mark record Christ describing the sun and moon being darkened and the shaking of the powers of heaven just prior to his second coming. John records the same events happening in the sixth seal. John also reveals those events taking place on earth at the end of the tribulation - the great earthquake and the mountains and islands fleeing away in his description of the seventh plague.
Christ's return is imminent. Those alive at this time blaspheming God because of the terrible hail also say "to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:" (Revelation 6:16)
The King of kings descends upon the cloud, wrapped in flaming fire. The heavens are rolled together as a scroll, the earth trembles before Him, and every mountain and island is moved out of its place. “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people.” Psalm 50:3, 4. GC 641.2
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Revelation 6:15-17. GC 642.1
The derisive jests have ceased. Lying lips are hushed into silence. The clash of arms, the tumult of battle, “with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood” (Isaiah 9:5), is stilled. Nought now is heard but the voice of prayer and the sound of weeping and lamentation. The cry bursts forth from lips so lately scoffing: “The great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” The wicked pray to be buried beneath the rocks of the mountains rather than meet the face of Him whom they have despised and rejected. GC 642.2
The sixth seal captures the cry of those who see Christ come and are not ready to meet him:
Revelation 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Their regret is immeasureable. Why did they not listen to the truth? Why did they trust in their own judgment and not the word of God? They were responsible for the deaths of God's witnesses and in doing so had sealed their own fate - death :
2 Thessalonians 2: 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

The more accurate rendering of this verse reads:
"And then will be revealed the lawless whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of the mouth of him and will annul by the appearing of the coming of him"
It is the lawless or the wicked when Christ comes that will be destroyed. A more detailed description is found in:
Revelation 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
It is the sword or spirit of God that destroys the lawless or wicked. With his word he created life and with his word he can also destroy.
This destruction will happen at Christ's second coming. The sixth seal describes the climactic events taking place just prior to his return.
