EVIDENCE THAT ALL DANIEL'S PROPHECIES EXTEND TO THE END OF THE WORLD
DANIEL 2
NEBUCHADNEZZAR’S IMAGE The Dream (Dan 2:34) Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. (Dan 2:35) Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. The Interpretation (Dan 2:42) And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. (Dan 2:43) And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. (Dan 2:44) And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. DANIEL 7 THE FOUR BEASTS The Dream (Dan 7:11) I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. (Dan 7:12) As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. (Dan 7:13) I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. (Dan 7:14) And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. The Interpretation (Dan 7:25) And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (Dan 7:26) But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. (Dan 7:27) And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. DANIEL 8 THE RAM AND THE GOAT AND SUCCESSIVE KINGDOMS The Dream (Dan 8:12) And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. (Dan 8:13) Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? (Dan 8:14) And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. The Interpretation (Dan 8:19) And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. …. (Dan 8:23) And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. (Dan 8:24) And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. (Dan 8:25) And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. DANIEL 9 THE SEVENTY WEEKS Daniel’s Prayer on Behalf of God’s People (Dan 9:2) In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. (Dan 9:11) Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. Gabriel Gives Understanding to Daniel of the Seventy Weeks (Dan 9:24) Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Dan 9:25) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. (Dan 9:26) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (Dan 9:27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. DANIEL 10—12 THE LATTER DAYS GABRIEL BRINGS UNDERSTANDING (Dan 10:14) Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. THE END OF THE DAYS (Dan 11:36) And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. (Dan 11:40) And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. (Dan 12:1) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (Dan 12:6) And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? Dan 12:8) And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? (Dan 12:9) And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. (Dan 12:13) But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days. |
END OF THE WORLD PROOF
The stone has destroyed all world kingdoms which have become like chaff and fills the whole earth. In the final world kingdom represented by the mixture of iron and clay, the stone, symbolising the coming of Christ, annihilates the image from top to toe and God’s everlasting kingdom is established on earth. God’s kingdom will stand forever END OF THE WORLD PROOF The world kingdoms are now represented as beasts. The diverse iron kingdom is given to the burning flame. The Son of Man - Christ is given a kingdom which shall not be destroyed - all people, nations and languages will serve him. When the heavenly judgment scene takes place it is the saints that expose the kingdom of the little horn. It is the saints with their heavenly commander Christ at the helm that war against Satan and his angelic forces. The little horn’s kingdom which has Satan at its helm is consumed and destroyed. The kingdom now becomes an everlasting kingdom inherited by the saints of the Most High. END OF THE WORLD PROOF The vision ends with a description of the sanctuary cleansing taking place. It takes place after a time period of the removal of the daily or truth and the sanctuary and host being trodden under foot. Gabriel’s interpretation briefly touches on who the ram and he-goat are in the vision. He then propels Daniel to the end of time, the last end of the indignation and a time when the transgressors are come to the full. His focus is on the arising of a King who destroys wonderfully, prospers, practices, destroys the holy people and is deceptive. This King stands up against Christ the Prince of princes but is destroyed or broken without hand. This is a direct connection to the stone that destroyed the image in Daniel 2 which was cut out without hand. This King’s power comes to naught at the return of Christ. END OF THE WORLD PROOF Daniel has come to an understanding of the seventy years that Jerusalem was going to experience desolation. He also realised that the desolation they had experienced was because of their disobedience or sin. He prays for forgiveness and for God’s mercy for God’s people. Gabriel explains to Daniel that God is going to give his people another opportunity to obey God - seventy weeks ‘are determined’ upon God’s people. Daniel is told that Jerusalem will be rebuilt—even in troublous times. But then it is revealed to him that the Messiah will be cut off and the city and the sanctuary will be destroyed again. References to the end highlight that the end will be like a flood and there will be a war and desolations. Because of the overspreading of abominations the sanctuary would be desolate until the ‘consummation’ or the end. The desolate or wicked would receive their punishment at this time. The flood and war is a reference to the continual attack by Satan on God’s people - also referenced in Revelation 12 as a flood and war (Rev 12:15—17). The ‘consummation’ or end of the world at Christ’s coming is described as an ‘utter end’ in Nahum 1:7—9 END OF THE WORLD PROOF Gabriel informs Daniel that he is going to explain what will take place in the latter days or the last/end days. The references to the ‘time of the end’ and ‘the end’ are multiple. Daniel realises that he has just been shown future events which extend to the end of time and asks a similar question twice - ‘How long to the end?’ The prophetic time periods of the 1260 and 1290 days are outlined in response to Daniel’s questions about the end. Daniel is even told he will stand in his lot at the end of the days. At the end of the 1260 period the King of the North is successful in scattering the power of the holy people (Daniel 12:7). (Dan 12:10) Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. The final words written by Daniel refer to the end of the days. The end of the days is the final reference and the days that have reached their end are the ‘latter days’ which Gabriel mentioned in Daniel 10. The Hebrew word for ‘latter’ truly refers to the ‘end’: H319 From H310; the last or end, hence the future; also posterity: - (last, latter) end (time), hinder (utter) -most, length, posterity, remnant, residue, reward. |
CONCLUSION:
After examining the visions given to Daniel by God and the interpretation or explanations he was also given by God—we can see the common thread that weaves its way through them all. Even though world kingdoms come and go our heavenly father is ruler over all. Every one of the visions extends to the end of time in this world’s history which is yet future. God is declaring to his people the future so they can sound the loud cry and herald the soon coming of Christ.

In the Scriptures are presented truths that relate especially to our own time. To the period just prior to the appearing of the Son of man, the prophecies of Scripture point, and here their warnings and threatenings pre-eminently apply. The prophetic periods of Daniel, extending to the very eve of the great consummation, throw a flood of light upon events then to transpire. RH September 25, 1883, par. 6
